White

It is the colour of stillness and therefore symbolizes spiritual transcendence. It indicates great potentiality because white can be broken down to produce all colours of the spectrum. It is also the colour of human sperm.

Red

Being the colour of female reproductive fluids and blood, red stands for fertility and life. It also represents the dry earth that promises life after the rivers.

Yellow

The virgin bride-to-be wears yellow. Being the colour of the Sun – the source of all life – it represents virility. By another understanding, having been derived from antiseptic turmeric, yellow indicates destruction of all negative things.

Green

It is the colour of realized energy, representing the earth after the rains, when the seed bursts. At a wedding, typically, the bride’s mother would wear green.
