The Shiva Lingam is an aniconic representation of Shiva and Shakti, which
symbolises the union of the primordial male and female energies. This icon is
worshipped across India and comprises of the linga or phallus in a basin-like
yoni or the female organ of creation.
Unaccompanied by excitement in the rest of the body, the linga represents an
aroused state of mind - it stands for an individual who has overcome all worldly
stimuli and attained permenant bliss through self-realization.
