WATER POTS are so versatile that they could have only evolved as a result of sustained awareness of ages. The various shapes, designs and uses of the pot are rooted in the secular life of the Indian household. Earlier, every house had a set of three to four brass pots for fetching water from the well, river or pond. Starting with the biggest, each next one being smaller on the head, to enable correct balance while carrying them home. The difference between a Lota from a Ghada is intuitive. Every lota or ghada should normally have a narrow neck, broad shoulder and prominent side walls, and a bottom part or just a bowl attached to the shoulder.
